Shield made before 1900, much worn, painted on outer surface; outer surface has many dents; design of double chevrons outlined in black; cut-out grip very small; Heavy large wooden shield, painted in mainly yellow & black.

Details including when collected: Collected near Cairns. Purchased from Norman H Hardy and presented to Pitt Rivers Museum by RF Wilkins in 1900.

Local name ‘bigin’ ; donated by Robert Francis Wilkins who purchased from Norman Hardy. Also spelt ‘begon’ by Jirrbal and Girramay people around Cardwell (Barnard 2013).
